AMI Spotlight: Medical Director & Assistant Medical Director of Wall Township

Dr. Hiren Patel and Dr. Stephen McManus are board certified, fellowship trained radiologists at the AMI Wall Township office, located at 2399 Highway 34, Unit B in Manasquan. Dr. Patel is the Medical Director and Dr. McManus is the Assistant Medical Director.

Dr. Patel received his medical degree from Stanford University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in diagnostic radiology at Brigham and Women's Hospital of Harvard Medical School and his fellowship training in musculoskeletal imaging at the Hospital for Special Surgery of Cornell Medical College. Dr. Patel has been with Atlantic Medical Imaging since 2003

Dr. Patel credits the hard working staff for making Wall Township a great place to work, and for patients to visit. He says, "Our staff is the first line of communication with our patients and they do an excellent job in representing AMI." What he finds most rewarding about being Medical Director of this office is knowing that he helps patients every day. Whether it is explaining exam results to a patient or helping to ease their worries, he is proud to be able to make a difference in their lives.

When he is not working, Dr. Patel spends time with his wife and children. Together they enjoy taking hikes and going on bike rides. During the summer, they travel and spend time at the beach. He also enjoys playing golf, and often participates in golf events which raise money for a number of local charities.

Dr. Stephen McManus received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University. His residency in diagnostic radiology was completed at Hahnemann University Hospital and his fellowship in cross-sectional imaging was completed at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Dr. McManus has been with AMI for 14 years.

This year, Dr. McManus was named a Castle Connolly Top Doctor in the specialty of Diagnostic Radiology for his excellence in medical care and practice. He believes the technology available and knowledgeable staff is what makes Atlantic Medical Imaging a wonderful place to work. Interpreting challenging cases and interacting with referring physicians is what Dr. McManus finds most rewarding.

After Dr. McManus and his family traveled to Tenwek Hospital in Kenya on missionary trips, the idea of using the internet to have cases read by doctors in the U.S. arose. Last year, he assisted in the creation of an internet based technology system called Tenwek Teleradiology. This allows him and 30 other radiologists from across the country to read cases from Tenwek Hospital. Since its inception, Dr. McManus and his team have read well over 2,000 cases. When he is not working or volunteering, he enjoys reading and spending time with his wife and children.

The next time you visit AMI in Wall Township, say hello to Dr. Patel & Dr. McManus!
